Ajiro Chawan

• Caliber.16.5cm(6.5″), H.5.5cm(2.2″)

This is the second Chawan as bamboo-made chawan, which was made by twill plaiing of Susudake. Lacquer were applied and a spiral pattern appered inside. It looks like the shirling current of the Naruto channel in Japan. The holoow at the bottom inside gathers tea at the end of drinking tea. This Chawan is convenient because it fits our hands.

Susudake Ajiro Kyusu(teapot)

• D.12cm(4.7″) x H.7.5cm(2.9″) x W.12cm(4.7″), Caliber.7cm(2.7″)

This type of a Kyusu(teapot) is called “Yokote”, becase it has a Lip for pouring and a handle at right angles. This kind of Kyusu is a popular form for general use. The body was made with the twill plaiting, and a lot of layers of black lacquer were applied inside. The surface of the body is frosted lacquer. The lid has light and shade of Susudake with the Masu-twill plaiting. The knob was joined to the lid by the Hineri plaiting with the split rattan lines.

Chabitsu

• Diameter 28.7cm x H.11.2cm

This Chabitsu makes the most of light and shade pattern of Susudake. The bottom was made with double Tessen plaiting. The side and the top was made with twill plaiting. Inside the body, a lot of layers of lacquer makes the body strengthen.

Susudake Ajiro Mizusashi

• Caliber.15cm x H.19cm diameter of the bottom 14cm

This Mizusashi was made with twill plaiting. It has an change of a plaiting at one-third of the lower half of the body. The bottom was made with square twill plaiting. The top was made from a combination of bamboo which was build of about 2.5 through 3cm Susudake. The knob of the top was made of brass. At the rim stitching, bamboo was attached inside to fit the lid. Of course we put water into this, because a lot of black layers of lacquer were applied inside.

Ajiro Mizusashi

• H.17cm(6.7″), Caliber.16cm(6.3″)

The body of this Mizusashi has a change with two type of the twill plaiting, and a few light and shade of Susudake. The top was a coiled bamboo which was divided lengthways. The body which has light and shade of Susudake, or uneven surface made of knot is quaint. The knob of the top was made of a knot of sooted Nemagaridake. Of course we put water into this, because a lot of black layers of lacquer were applied inside.

Suzuribako of Susudake

• D.30cm(11.8″)×W.23.5cm(9.25″)×H.16cm(6.3″)

This Suzuribako(a box for a inkstone) was made by square twill plaiting and triple twill paliting, and it has light and shade patterns of Susudake on its surface. A lot of layers of lacquer were applied inside and at the bottom, so the body strengthened. It holds a inkstone and a pen in the top box and Japanese paper for calligraphy in the bottom box.

The surfece of the lid and the side were made by square twill plaiting. The box are built on two levels.

The side of the upper box was made by triple twill plaiting. A part of bamboo which held a inkstone and a pen was put on the inside with about 7 or 8 mm split bamboo. A lot of layers of lacquer was applied inside.

The side of the bottom box was made by triple twill plaiting and the base was made by square twill plaiting. A lot of layers of lacquer were applied inside.

Pot

The body was made by twill plaiting and a handgrip was attached with circle rattan lines. The surface of the body was painted with black and red lacquer. It has originality.

Pot

• W.22.5cm(8.85″)×H.17cm(6.7″)

The hexagonal body and the lip for pouring were made by twill plaiting. Narrow Nemagaritake was attached to each corner of the hexagonal body and the handgrip. The bottom looks like a spool for string for a kite. Of course we put water into this, since a lot of layers of black lacquer were applied inside and a lot of layers of red lacquer were applied outside.

Ajiro Hira-Mizusashi

• H.11.5cm(4.5″), Caliber.20cm(7.9″)

This Mizusashi has roundness body with light and shade of Susudake. On the side, there is a change of the plaiting in the middle, and three tiers as decoration in the upside. Of course we put water into this, since a lot of layers of lacquer were applied inside. The top was coated with black lacquer.

Ajiro Chawan

• H.5.5cm(2.2″), Caliber.16.5cm(6.5″)

This is the first Chawan as bamboo-made chawan, which was made by twill plaiting of Susudake. Black lacquer were applied on the outside. The patterns of lacquer appered inside, becase a layer of red lacquer and a lot of layers of black lacquer were applied. The holoow at the bottom inside gathers tea at the end of drinking tea.

Basket for Sweets [40-005]

• H.17.5cm(6.9″) x W.16cm(6.3″) x D.16cm

This basket for sweets brings out the best beauty of light and shade of Susudake. A lot of layers of lacquer were applied inside the basket. It has double Tessen plaiting base and twill plaiting body. At the rim, it was touched about 10mm(0.39″) Susudake and stitched finely with split rattan lines. Three lines of Susudake make a handgrip. Two lines of them are joined to body and one of them are joined to base. In order to play an important role in strength and display as an ornament, the handgrip was stitched finely with split rattan lines.

Ajiro Rokkaku Chawan [20-004]

The inscription is “Aska”.
This Chawan was made of Susudake and used twill plaiting. It has hexagonal shape and it was attached depth 10mm(0.39″) of Susudake to each corner. A lot of layers of lacquer with rust were applied inside the Chawan. It was named “Aska” from Yumedono, which had octagon shape, located at Horyu-ji. Horyu-ji is a Buddhist temple in Ikaruga, Nara Prefecture, Japan. This area is also called “Aska”.
