厚みのある四方竹(しほうちく)を繋ぎ合わせ全体を形作った水指である。四方竹とは棹が四角形に育った竹である。一定の長さに切り揃えた9枚の竹にカーブを付け、横に並べながら皮籐で繋ぎ合わせている。内側は繋ぎ目に柿渋を塗った和紙を貼り、その上から黒漆を何層にも厚く塗っている。底と蓋は横に繋ぎ合わせ丸くカットしたもので、蓋の摘みには銀線を使用。口造りは内側に竹を付け落とし蓋仕様とし、表面は透漆仕上げである。正面には金箔を貼り陽を描き、蓋を取った向こう正面には、三日月を蝶貝による螺鈿で表現している。
Shiho-chiku Mizusashi

This Mizusashi is a combination of thick Shiho-chiku bamboo. The shape of a Shiho-chiku is square. Nine part of bamboo which were cut same size and bended were arranged and joined with split rattan lines. Japanese paper which was colored by juice from a persimmon was applied at joints and a lot of layers of black laquer were applied inside. Both the bottom and the lid were cutted circle, and a knob of the top was made of silver wire. At the rim stitching, bamboo was attached inside to fit the lid, and clear lacquer was applied to the surface of the outside. The gold at the front of the outside expresses the sun and the shell at the front of the inside expresses the crescent.
