Sumitori of Susudake

  • W.25.5cm×H.13cm

This Sumitori is a type of furoyou (the portable brazier in summer) and was made of about 7 or 10 cm Susudake. The Sumitori has a base with a hemp leaf pattern plaiting and a body with loose plait. At the rim stitching, the bamboo which were plaited from the base, were rolled themselves as the foundation and the end of them were fixed to the body. At the inside, Japan paper(“Wa-shi”) was pasted on a spreaded Shuroge(fiber of a palm tree) and black lacquer was applied. The Syuroge is shown from the bottom.
